The st40X circle after heat treatment allows you to achieve an optimal combination of strength, elasticity and plasticity of the material. Forges made of this alloy, hardened in oil at a temperature of +860°C and after tempering in the range of +500 – +800°C, demonstrate excellent performance characteristics.
Hardening of a steel bar 40X
It is advisable to order a 40XXLINKENDX1X wheel after hardening to increase its hardness and wear resistance. The process involves heating the metal to a temperature of 840-880°C followed by rapid cooling in water or oil.
As a result of this process, martensite – is formed in the steel structure, a very hard and strong metastable microstructure. The 40X hardened circle has much better mechanical properties of steel, but makes it more brittle, so it must be tempered after hardening.
The process of hardening products from steel bar 40X involves the following stages:
The workpiece is placed in an electric furnace where the holding time depends on the diameter of the bar (from a few minutes to more than 20 minutes for large cross-sections) to provide the necessary austenitization characteristics, that is, heating the steel to a temperature above the critical point at which its structure is transformed into austenite.
The heated product is quickly lowered into the oil bath for sharp cooling to consolidate the necessary internal structural changes.
A qualitatively performed hardening procedure involves uniform heating of rolled metal, the heating color changes from cherry to bright yellow depending on the temperature, which is only a visual reference for process control.
It is recommended to buy a 40X hardened steel wheel for parts in which the priority indicators are strength and long service life of the finished product under conditions of constant load.
Release and normalization of the st40X rod
It is worth buying a 40x wheel, which after hardening was subjected to tempering to reduce the brittleness and increase the plasticity of steel. As a result of such manipulations, the internal stresses of the metal are removed, which improves the impact toughness and other mechanical properties of the steel.
There are three main types of leave:
low-temperature tempering (150-250°C) – is used to reduce internal stresses and increase viscosity; such tempering minimally reduces the hardness of steel;
medium temperature tempering (350-500°C) – is used to improve the balance between hardness and plasticity, helps stabilize the structure of martensite and reduce its fragility;
high temperature tempering (500–650°C) – leads to a noticeable decrease in hardness, while increasing the impact toughness and plasticity of the metal; this method is often used to produce parts that are often subjected to impact stress.
Normalization is another important heat treatment process that affects not only the 40X price circle, but also aims to improve the structures and mechanical properties of steel. In the process of normalization, the metal is heated to a high temperature, kept and then cooled in air. This process ensures an even distribution of carbon and alloying elements in the steel structure, improving its strength and forming a more uniform structure.
Tempering and normalization of steel – are critical heat treatment processes, as these methods of impact on steel ensure high quality of final products, as well as improve their reliability and durability in operation.
