Autocivilka (compulsory civil liability insurance of owners of land vehicles) — is a basic type of insurance protection provided by the legislation of Ukraine. Its main purpose is to compensate for damage caused to the life, health or property of third parties in the event of a traffic accident caused by the insured driver.
Below we will consider what exactly is included in the insurance coverage of the motor vehicle and why it is of key importance for drivers and victims of road accidents.
Compensation for damage to life and health
Autocivilka insurance provides financial coverage in case of damage to the life or health of third parties during a traffic accident. Such compensation includes the costs of providing emergency and planned medical care, paying for medicines, carrying out rehabilitation measures, as well as compensation in cases of permanent disability or death of the victim. This provision is of key importance, as the costs of treatment can be substantial and the availability of insurance protection allows for timely assistance and avoidance of financial pressure on the perpetrator of the accident.
Compensation for damage to the property of third parties
Autocivilka covers damage caused to the property of other road users and outsiders. This includes the replacement of a damaged vehicle, repair of road infrastructure, restoration of communal or private property. The compensation mechanism makes it possible to ensure the rapid restoration of the property of the victims without the need to spend the personal funds of the culprit, which is especially important in cases where the losses are significant.
Compensation for moral damage
Within the scope of the motor vehicle, the possibility of compensation for moral damage caused to the victims as a result of the accident is provided. This covers intangible damages related to physical suffering, emotional experiences, loss of loved ones or reduced quality of life. The inclusion of this element in insurance coverage provides a more comprehensive approach to dealing with the consequences of an accident, taking into account not only the material but also the psychological and social aspects of the damage.
Does the car civil cover the damage caused to the culprit of the accident?
Autocivilka does not provide for compensation for damage caused to the perpetrator of a traffic accident, his vehicle or other property. The purpose of OSCPV is to protect the interests of third parties injured as a result of road accidents.
If the perpetrator of the accident wishes to secure his own property and receive compensation in case of damage or destruction of the car, it is necessary to issue an additional voluntary insurance policy (for example, CASCO). This combination of policies allows for financial protection of both parties: the car civil covers the losses of the victims, and CASCO — reimburses the costs of the owner of the vehicle. This is especially important in conditions where the cost of repairing a car can be significant even after a small collision.
