During today's State of Play, a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword was shown, and the release date was confirmed: the game will be released on PlayStation 5 on September 25, 2026. A demo for PS5 is already available — it allows players to experience the early stages of Musashi's journey to power and knowledge.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a new installment in the series, where Miyamoto Musashi gains the power of Oni. The events unfold in Kyoto at the beginning of the Edo period, with strange Genma monsters becoming the main adversaries in the city.

In the fifth trailer, Mount Oe was showcased separately — a famous location in Kyoto where nature intertwines with history and legends. It is there that Shuten Doji has established his base, committing a series of brutal crimes.

The game promises various types of sword attacks: from strikes with noticeable weight to blade-on-blade clashes with parries and counters. There will also be the signature Issen — a critical strike, as well as moves related to the power of Oni. Among the new mechanics, Reflex Combo, Oni Strength, and Oni Agility were showcased.

The demo contains approximately 30 minutes of the early part of the story. Players can test parries, counters, Issen, Oni Armament, soul absorption, and other techniques, as well as fight Musashi's ancient rival — Sasaki Ganryu. Progress from the demo will not carry over to the full game.
