Recently, while printing on my Bambu Lab P1S, the filament ran out. The printer paused the print and showed a corresponding notification in the mobile app. This is convenient — you can see what happened.
So the question arose whether everything would be okay with the product if I resumed the print after a few hours. For PrintArmy, I always count the amount of plastic on the spool to avoid needing to change the plastic during printing (I don't want to affect the adhesion quality between layers).
I decided to try using the leftover filament from different spools and print something for myself.
In the app, as expected, a notification came through. After a few hours, I went to change the spool:
I simply inserted the new filament.
On the printer screen, I pressed Feeding / Load, and waited for the new plastic to come out of the nozzle (purge).
I pressed Resume (in the app) — the print continued.
The print finished successfully. How did this affect the print quality?
Product strength: in my case, it's hard to say. I couldn't break it at the "joint" point. But I think it depends directly on many factors.
Appearance: if you look closely — you can notice a small line at the pause point. But it's almost unnoticeable, especially if the object is not decorative but functional. I don't know how to mark that line in the photo. But I think it's visible.
Overall, it's really cool that the printer maintains the temperature in the chamber and waits for you.
