Which towel is better to use for the face?

Let's imagine an ordinary morning. You washed your face with cool water, refreshed your skin – and now reach for the towel. But stop: have you ever wondered what exactly do you wipe your face with a towel? And don't you harm your skin every day with a habit that you consider a trifle?

I did not pay attention to this issue for a long time. A towel – is also a towel. Soft, clean and everything would seem to be fine. But over time, I began to notice: sometimes there is a slight irritation, the skin is slightly tightened or, on the contrary, becomes oily in just a few hours. Then I decided to dig deeper and figure out which towel indeed should you use – for face and should you have a separate one at all?

We are used to using terry towels. They are pleasant to the touch, absorb moisture well. But there is a nuance: such a texture, even the most delicate, still microscopically damages the skin. Especially if the skin is sensitive, prone to irritation or acne. Another big minus – bacteria. Wet warm bathroom environment – is an ideal shelter for microorganisms. And if the towel is not changed every day (and let's be honest – who does it every day?), then you just transfer the bacteria back to the face.

Microfiber has become a superstar among towels in recent years. It is very soft, hypoallergenic, dries quickly and does not accumulate as many bacteria as terry tissue. However, the nuance of – is important here quality. Not every microfiber towel is equally useful. Cheap options may contain synthetic impurities that irritate the skin. But if you choose a quality towel made of ultra-thin microfiber –, it will be an ideal option for daily use.

Bamboo fabric – is another interesting player. It is ecological, has natural antibacterial properties and is very delicate. For a while I was using a bamboo towel – and noticed that the skin really became less irritated. The only «but» – it dries a little slower, so it is important to ventilate it well after use.

And this is where the most interesting begins. Some cosmetologists are simply begging to give up any fabric towels – even the best – and switch to paper towels. The arguments are simple: hygienic, one-time, minimal contact and irritation. I personally tested this method for two weeks. And, you know, I liked it. First, less acne (especially in the T-zone), and second, – is quick and convenient. But, of course, not the most environmentally friendly solution, unless you sort the garbage or use too much. The best option – is to choose paper towels from recycled raw materials.

I derived the rule for myself: after washing in the morning and in the evening, I wipe my face a soft paper towel (just applying to the skin, not the corpse), but once or twice a week – I allow myself a bamboo or microfiber towel. But necessarily – is clean! For body – one, for face – other. And one more life hack: I dry facial towels not in the bathroom, but on the balcony or near the window – to minimize moisture and bacteria.
