Crumble is a traditional English dessert that appeared during World War II. At a time when food was as precious as gold, housewives sought simple ways to prepare delicious dishes with a minimum of ingredients. Crumble became the perfect solution: a filling of fresh fruit was covered with a sandy crumb dough, creating a crispy crust. Despite its modesty, crumble quickly became popular and remains a favorite dessert to this day.
This dessert can be made with any seasonal fruits – apples, peaches, berries, or even rhubarb. We chose juicy plums, which give the crumble a special sweet-and-sour flavor. We will explain and show all the stages of preparation below.

We will need:

  • 900 g of plums (weight without pits)
  • 100 g of brown sugar for sprinkling the plums (can be replaced with regular white sugar)
  • 300 g of flour (we used 150 g of premium flour and 150 g of whole grain flour)
  • 200 g of butter
  • 150 g of sugar (we used 75 g of regular white sugar and 75 g of brown sugar)
  • 6-8 tablespoons of cold water.

Preparation

We wash the plums, cut them in half, remove the pits, and then cut the halves again in half. As a result, we will have very nice plum quarters. 
We immediately start forming the crumble. We will bake it in a tart pan. We grease it with butter and evenly distribute the plums in it.
