Countering systematic violations of traffic rules for road safety: The Ministry of Internal Affairs has outlined proposals for the National Security and Defense Council meeting.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is developing a set of measures to minimize road accidents and strengthen responsibility for systematic violations of traffic rules. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ivan Vihivskyi, in his official Telegram channel.
The head of the department noted that he held a meeting with the participation of the Deputy Ministers, the Acting Head of the National Police of Ukraine, the leadership of the National Police, and the Department of Patrol Police. During the meeting, specific proposals were identified that they plan to present at the NSDC meeting.
According to the Minister, one of the key areas is strengthening responsibility for systematic violations of traffic rules, particularly in the field of passenger transportation and the operation of light electric vehicles.
“First - it is necessary to strengthen responsibility for systematic violations of the rules. It must be significant and unavoidable. The priority is also the safety of passenger transportation and the regulation of the operation of light electric vehicles. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, together with the people's deputies of Ukraine, has already developed a number of initiatives. We are activating cooperation and counting on the support of Parliament,” emphasized Ivan Vihivskyi.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivan Vihivskyi, there are decisions that are already beginning to be implemented at the level of the Ministry. This includes issues related to strengthening control over speeding.
“Speed is one of the main causes of road accidents. This week we will implement dozens of new automatic speed monitoring cameras. The locations where they will be installed will be announced by the patrol police soon,” added the head of the department.
Ivan Vihivskyi drew attention to special patrol vehicles that will soon return to domestic roads.
“And one more thing - 'Phantoms'. Special patrol vehicles that do not stand out among others but are equipped with systems for recording speed violations that operate, in particular, while in motion. They operated for only a month before the start of the full-scale war. During this period, the police held over 26,000 drivers accountable for speeding. 'Phantoms' will return to the roads,” noted the Minister of Internal Affairs.
The Minister also mentioned a traffic accident that occurred recently during the day in the center of Kyiv.
“Yesterday, a terrible accident occurred in the center of the capital, which miraculously did not result in human casualties. In just the first weeks of August, over 1,300 road accidents with injured people have been recorded in Ukraine,” noted Ivan Vihivskyi.
Improving road safety is one of the tasks of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, which has been proposed to be included in the Government's Action Program.
“It is not just about fines and strengthening responsibility. It is about a set of measures that will improve the culture on the road,” concluded the head of the department.
