The official website of Tsuburaya Productions has published the main trailer for THE ORIGIN OF ULTRAMAN — a new documentary film celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Ultraman series.
The video features quotes from the authors and creators appearing in the film, including Guillermo del Toro, Hideo Kojima, Hideaki Anno, and Shinji Higuchi. At the end, Anno says: “I suspect that the curse of Ultraman will haunt me until my death.”
What was shown in the trailer
The video also features members of the original cast and crew of Ultraman, including Susumu Kurobe (Hayata), Hiroko Sakurai (Fuji), Sandayu Dokumamushi (Arashi), Toshihiro Iijima (screenplay, direction), and Kazuo Sagawa (cinematography).
Additionally, the film shares perspectives on the series from creators in Japan and around the world, who attempt to answer the question: “What is Ultraman?”
When will the film be released
THE ORIGIN OF ULTRAMAN was produced by renowned director Hirokazu Kore-eda, known for Shoplifters, which won the “Palme d'Or” at the 71st Cannes Film Festival in 2018.
The premiere of the documentary film in Japan is scheduled for July 3, 2026.
