Against the backdrop of the preparation for the second season of the series Devil May Cry from Netflix, it's the perfect time to recall the anime Devil May Cry (2007) from Madhouse.
It has that same gloomy, gothic vibe associated with the PS2 era: a bit rough around the edges, somewhat noticeably outdated in places, but precisely because of this, it is particularly enjoyable to watch today.

Episodes as Separate Cases for Dante
The anime can easily be described as a title with a "monster of the week" formula: almost every episode features a new job where a demon appears, and Dante finds himself drawn into a fight. But instead of a constant chase for major plot twists, the series allows itself pauses: bar scenes, nighttime drives, listening to records, and awkward conversations with Patty Lowell.
This rhythm is reminiscent of Cowboy Bebop and even older shows like Blue Seed: each time there is a new threat, but the atmosphere, buildup, and the mood before the fight are equally important. Despite being a self-contained story, it is still a canonical part of the universe that unfolds between the first and second games and does not explain basic things too well for newcomers.
