After the preview screening in Tokyo, the official website of the anime Goodbye, Lara announced the start date of the series in Japan. The title from Kinema Citrus will begin airing on Sunday, July 5, at 24:30 JST — in fact, this is already 0:30 on Monday, July 6.

Goodbye, Lara is an original project created for the 15th anniversary of Kinema Citrus. The plot reinterprets Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Little Mermaid, but relocates the events to modern Japan.

The story follows Lara, a mermaid who became human for the love of a human prince, but faced defeat and turned into sea foam. After 200 years, Lara is reborn in Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture and this time wants to find true love.

The director of the series is Takushi Koide, who previously worked as an assistant director on Revue Starlight. The series composition is handled by Anna Kawahara, character design is done by Shiori Tani, and the music is composed by Yuma Yamaguchi, known for MARRIAGETOXIN.

The voice cast has also been announced: Lara is voiced by Hana Hisakawa, Mari — Nana Kawanishi, Grace — Rika Fukami, Luka — Ayumu Murase, Yoshiya — Tomohiro Ono, Makoto — Mitsuaki Madono, Emma — Nanae Sumitomo, and Rowena — Masaki Terasoma.
