The official YouTube channel of Bandai Namco Filmworks published a character trailer a day before the Japanese release of the first chapter of Patlabor EZY. The video showcased seven new members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Special Vehicle Unit Section 2 Division 2.

Among the new characters are Kuga Towa, Kippei Atori, Saki Hirata, Akihiko Hazama, Kimika Saeki, Yuta Yanai, and Yuzuki Hachikuma. They are voiced by Sumire Uesaka, Kikunosuke Toya, Ami Koshimizu, Chikahiro Kobayashi, Megumi Hayashibara, Setsuji Sato, and Yume Matsumura.

Patlabor EZY will consist of eight episodes and will be released in Japanese theaters in three parts. File 1 is scheduled for May 15, 2026, File 2 for August 14, 2026, and File 3 for March 2027.

The first six episodes, which will be included in File 1 and File 2, will be separate stories in an anthology format. The seventh and eighth episodes from File 3 will tell a single continuous story.

The project is being created based on the original work by HEADGEAR. The director is Yutaka Izubuchi, and the animation is handled by J.C. Staff. The script and composition of the series are written by Kazunori Ito, character design and chief animation direction are done by Takamitsu Sato, CG direction by Yasutomo Moridzumi, and music by Kenji Kawai. CG is managed by GAZEN, and overall production is led by GENCO.

According to the synopsis, in the late 1990s, against the backdrop of rapid technological development, multifunctional humanoid machines known as Labor began to be used almost everywhere. However, alongside this, a new threat emerged — crimes involving Labor. To counter them, the police created the Special Vehicle Section 2, which later evolved into the well-known Patlabor unit. In the 2030s, as AI-based automation rapidly advances and piloted Labor gradually displaces autonomous robots, Section 2 continues to protect people and the city.
