Do you want to have a fun time with friends, joke until you cry, and enhance your explanation skills? Then the game “Alias” (eng. Alias) is just for you. It is one of the most famous and beloved party board games that requires no special knowledge but will definitely make you talk, think quickly, and laugh a lot.
What is Alias?
“Alias” is a word explanation game where participants must convey the meaning of a word to their team as quickly as possible without using root words, translations, or pointing to objects. The more words the team guesses within the time limit, the more points they will earn.
The name Alias translates from English as "pseudonym," "another name" — and the essence of the game is to name a word without naming it directly.
Who is this game suitable for?
For groups of friends
For family games
For team building at work
For children (there are separate children's versions)
For language learning (there are English, Ukrainian, and multilingual sets)
Number of players: from 4 and more, preferably an even number (players are divided into teams).
How to play Alias: basic rules
Teams: players are divided into 2 or more teams.
Goal: within a limited time, explain as many words from the cards to your team as possible.
Explanation: you cannot:
use root words (for example, the word "drawing" cannot be explained as "to draw"),
point to objects or use sign language,
translate the word into another language.
Game process:
One of the participants draws a card and starts explaining the word.
The team tries to guess — as soon as the word is guessed, the next one is taken.
Each round lasts about 1 minute (usually a sand timer is included).
Points:
1 point for each correctly guessed word.
For breaking the rules — minus a point or skipping the word (depending on the game variant).
Victory: the team that first reaches the required number of points or crosses the game board wins (in some versions, the game has a board with tokens).
