I installed Steam on macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 (23B92) and decided to install Counter-Strike S2 (previously I played a bit on this MacBook Air in CS:GO on minimum settings). I didn't see any warning that the game is not supported (the download went without warnings).
I downloaded the game (30Gb+) and a few updates (up to 15Gb). After that, it turned out that this is CS:GO (Legacy), and CS2 is not supported.

Old version of CS:GOYou have launched an old version of the game that is no longer supported. Update Counter-Strike to the latest version to access your inventory, gear, matchmaking, and other online features of the game.
Steam suggested playing CS:GO, support for which will end on January 1, 2024. But it is already clear that most have switched to the new version of Counter-Strike. It is also a bit annoying that the link to the 'Learn more...' button leads to a non-existent FAQ page.

Old version of CS:GOThis is an old version of CS:GO.Its support will end on January 1, 2024.If you launched Counter-Strike 2 and ended up here, your hardware may be incompatible with Counter-Strike 2. For more information, please contact Steam support.
The Legacy game does not connect to servers and all other online features. So I was a bit disappointed and deleted everything.
Installing CS2 on macOS with an M chip is currently possible using the Whisky program (a wrapper for Wine. Wine, in turn, is a tool that allows running Windows applications on Unix systems). But the quality of the graphics and the game itself will be in question. Not to mention the additional features (people complain about the lack of many Steam features (for example, overlay)).
Having had a bad experience running a less demanding game using Whisky (specifically Age of Mythology), I am not even considering this option. So it's the end of Counter-Strike on macOS (perhaps not forever). After all, Windows and PC are more suitable for gaming than Mac.
