Installed Steam on macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 (23B92) and decided to install Counter-Strike S2 (previously played a little on this MacBook Air in CS:GO on minimals). Warning that the game is not supported - did not see (the download went without warnings).
Downloaded the game (30Gb+) and several more updates (up to 15Gb). After that, it turned out to be CS:GO (Legacy), and CS2 is not supported.

Old version of CS:GOYou have launched an old version of the game that is no longer supported. Update Counter-Strike to the latest version to access your inventory, gear, match search, and other network features of the game.
Steam offered to play CS:GO, support for which will end on January 1, 2024. But it is already clear that most of them switched to the new version of Counter-Strike. And it's a little bit more annoying that at the link of the button 'Details...' - a non-existent FAQ page.

Legacy game does not connect to servers and all other network functions. So I got a little upset and deleted everything.
Installing CS2 currently on masOS with the M chip is possible using the Whisky program (wrapper for Wine). Wine, in turn, is a thing that makes it possible to run Windows applications on Unix systems). But the quality of the picture and the game in general will be in question. Not to mention additional features (people complain about the lack of many Steam features (such as overlay)).
With a bad experience running a less picky game with Whiskey (namely Age of Mythology), I'm not even considering this option. So Counter-Strike on macOS is over (maybe not forever). However, Windows and PC are more suitable for gaming than Mac.
