At the Summer Game Fest, Star Wars: Galactic Racer was showcased — a racing title set in the Star Wars universe, where the focus is on high speed and various types of transport. After about an hour of gameplay, it became clear: the project does not merely exploit the well-known franchise but attempts to present a separate piece of the galaxy with its own rules.
The events unfold after the fall of the Empire. An illegal racing league, the Galactic League, operates in the Outer Rim, and the main character named Shade gets involved in the tournament through an invitation from his creator, Darius Pax. Shade also has a personal score to settle with the reigning champion Kestar Bool, so the story revolves not only around speed but also personal motivation and credits.

Speeders, Podracers, and a Roguelite Structure Mode

The demo at SGF focused on the campaign and more stable speeders, although podracers are also present in the game. All transport is divided into three types: landspeeders, speeder bikes, and skim speeders. Each has its own balance of speed, maneuverability, and durability, as well as unique abilities.
Landspeeders are heavier and better withstand impacts, able to drift around corners. Speeder bikes are faster but more fragile; their Kinetic Burst ability provides a short boost to better navigate sharp turns. Skim speeders are the most maneuverable, and Knife Edge allows them to tilt sideways for more precise trajectory handling. All have an Afterburner for a short acceleration and a Ramjet for a longer boost, but it heats up the system: if overheated, the speeder can explode.
The campaign is built with roguelite elements — meaning that the progression of each run is partially randomized. After choosing one of three routes, players encounter various events: regular races, Field Tests requiring a specific time on new transport, Eliminators where weaker opponents are filtered out during the race, and Mystery Encounters with unpredictable outcomes. Between runs, players can unlock and purchase upgrades, some of which are retained for future runs.
There is also a multiplayer mode, a Scenarios mode with longer tasks for specific characters, and an Arcade mode for quick races. The demo also allowed players to race as Sebulba from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Podracers in this game are very fast but also extremely unstable: any collision can destroy them. The release of Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled for PlayStation 5 on October 6.
